Flower Power Friday....Featuring

Quote of the week......
Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"
                                                                     ~Robin Williams

I started off with the quote of the week, because that's what Spring means to me.  Let the party begin and see all that nature brings.

Pansies are hardy annuals (being they bloom one season only) and are one of the earliest flowers we see at our local nurseries.  They come in a variety of colors and are very easy to grow.  Pansies like full sun and cool temperatures.  Water your pansies regularly especially if planted in containers since this is one of the more common reason pansies fail. They can be grown in the garden as a border or ground cover. Many folks choose to plant their pansies in containers which could be placed anywhere.  The photo below was photograph near a shop entrance. Pansies will bloom through spring to summer and in warmer climates in the fall through winter.  Deadhead (removing dead flowers) often to prolong blooming and to encourage new flowers.

Fun Facts About Pansies
  • Did you know that Pansies are edible?  In fact their cousin the Viola are great in teas, syrups and can be candied.  The Pansy is great as a garnish and too can be eaten.
  • The name 'pansy' is derived from the French word pensée meaning "thought", and was so named because the flower resembles a human face; in August it nods forward as if deep in thought.
Enjoy these wonderful little gems whether in the garden or as an edible delight.

Over the weekend I will be working on some Easter surprises!
Have a Fantastic Weekend!
See you Monday!
